In partnership with Restormel Borough Council (RBC), we offer an ‘Intensive’ Housing Management service to tenants in temporary accommodation. It aims to promote and support tenants to maintain a well-run household that enables all members to enjoy a healthy, safe and positive environment. The project is currently supporting about 70 clients.
Our service covers areas such as:
- Rent management and ensuring Benefits are claimed correctly
- Budgeting and money management
- Practical housekeeping tasks
- Supporting tenants to deal with issues that could affect the ability to sustain a tenancy, such as drug or alcohol abuse or mental health problems
- Finding work, accessing education and developing interests and hobbies
- Managing relationships with others, avoiding anti-social behaviour
The criteria for Intensive Housing Management are as folllows:
- Families and individuals must be accepted by RBC as homeless and owed a duty of housing
- Existing Families and individuals in temporary accommodation who need short term support to either increase or sustain successful independent life in the community
- If families or individuals require a greater level of support than the service can provide they must be receiving this from other agencies
This service is managed by a Project Manager, a Senior Project Worker and two Project Workers; all who are currently based at RBC Offices.
Our Referral Process
RBC will have to complete a housing assessment for existing and potential tenants as part of their homeless application. Applicants will then be referred to Chapter 1.
Arrangements will be made for us to meet the applicant and complete a needs assessment interview to discuss and determine the level of housing management required.
A risk assessment will form part of the assessment interview. This is not to find grounds for rejection but to ensure that adequate support can be provided to both the applicant and other family members. If a service can be offered, a move in or start date will be agreed with the applicant.
Once the housing management and level of service has been agreed a support worker will be allocated to the tenant and a programme of support will be agreed with the tenant.
