Chapter 1 residents Stuart and Angela have attended their first meetings as the new Service User Board Representatives on the Chapter 1 Board of Trustees.
The pair will now spend the next 12 months representing the views of service users at a national strategic level in Chapter 1.
Chapter 1 have had service users on the Board of Trustees for the past 3 years as part of our commitment to service users getting involved in all aspects of our work.
Angela, a 37 year old resident from Cornwall said “I want to be a positive influence on behalf of service users to make sure we have our say.” Angela comes from one of Chapter 1’s PSL (Private Social Landlord) schemes where Chapter 1 partners with local private landlords. “The PSL scheme gives an extra option for people seeking more secure housing. There is a need for more of these schemes and I hope I can work with the Board to develop more over the next year.”
Stuart is 19 and comes from Nuneaton and will be giving the Board his experience of receiving accommodation and support services from Chapter 1.
The position of Service User Board Rep ensures the views of service users, the people who matter most to Chapter 1, are part of the planning of national strategy and corporate governance. Richard Cummings, GET 1NVOLVED Manager, said “It is vital that the views of service users reach all levels of our organisation from top to bottom. Stuart and Angela’s role is special in its scope to affect change in the national strategy of Chapter 1 and I’m very excited about what they can contribute.”
Stuart and Angela will now be getting down to business following attendance at the recent Board Away Days with project visits and meetings with regional service user representatives planned for the next month.
