On a cold and rainy December evening, residents, staff and friends of Chapter 1 gathered at CAC Waterloo to celebrate together in the joy of Christmas. This year's carol service captured a variety of insights into the meaning of Christmas, some traditional and others fun.
We were lucky to have the angelic voices of three young members of Christ Church Eltam, and a packed out audience who were raring to sing along to the carols in style. We also saw some star performances as residents from the hostel gathered together and performed an adaptation of the Wise Men’s Journey to Bethlehem.
One resident spoke to the audience about what Christmas was like in Calcutta, which was insightful and eye-opening, as was the reading by a budding young dramatist that told the story of the Wise Men following the star. Martin our Chaplain wrapped the whole event up by reminding us of the true meaning and joy of Christmas.
After the service mulled wine and mince pies were enjoyed under the twinkle of the Christmas lights, whilst people chatted and enjoyed each others company. On a cold and bleak night the carol service filled me with warmth and I do hope the same was felt by others.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all.
