John's story

John approached Chapter 1's private sector leasing scheme, Chy Lowen, when he, his partener and their baby son were living with family in overcrowded and unsuitable conditions. Chy Lowen were able to find them a place of their own in Newquay where they could establish a proper family life.

He said: 'We were really strugglng before we had our own home. Chapter 1 made a big difference to us. Now we're settled, our son is 17 month old, and I'm doing a university course on marine conservation. I believe conservation starts with people, and so if you help people, they can then help the environment. Through Chapter 1 I now have the opportunituy to go to Kenya as a volunteer. I'm hoping to do this kind of work in the future. I'm ready to give something back - I want to make a difference to other people's lives.'
